7th Grade Hospitality Dinner - Friday, February 10, 6:30pm

Each year, the 7th grade creates a thematic dinner and service for a special Friday night community Shabbat. The goal of this event is to learn with our 7th graders about hospitality, study, work together as a community and have an “active mitzvah” hospitality experience. It’s truly an amazing time. The students sell tickets and everyone is invited. The proceeds go to our Religious School program and, this year, to the World Land Trust. The students hope to purchase several acres of rain forest to preserve forever from deforestation.

Every year, a wonderful friend in our Har Shalom community, Gil Hersh, taught our 7th graders about hospitality, planned, shopped and cooked with them. He loved empowering the students and getting to know them. With Gil’s recent passing, he is truly missed as we begin our hospitality dinner journey. Through conversations and planning, we decided that one of the best ways to honor Gil’s memory is to have our dinner this year. That’s what he would have wanted; for Gil it was all about the students.
